The Avro Lancaster was the most famous heavy bomber of the RAF in World War II and was put into service in 1942. More than 7300 aircraft were built for the Royal Air Force Bomber Command. One of the most important goals of the RAF was the destruction of the dams of the Ruhr area which supplied important industrial plants with electricity. In order to effectively hit resistant targets such as dams or dams a dam-busting rotary bomb better known as a bouncing bomb was developed.
